It’s not just life, it’s PROVENCElife© PROVENCElife 2007 Côté de Boeuf in the beautiful village of Le Beausset
by Brian Doswell
If any of you have read my restaurant reviews before, then you will know that I am
convinced that even the best of the eateries, anywhere in the world, struggle to
maintain the standards that they open with. Conversely, a new proprietor, a new
coat of paint and some new table linen are usually good indications that the chef
will be making an extra special effort behind the scenes. I’m really pleased to say
that, this month; I have been proved right again – twice. So, while I am in a smug
mood, let me share this treat with you.
Côté de Boeuf
RN8 – 36 Bd Chanzy. Le Beausset
tel : 04 94 90 41 10
This restaurant might be a little more familiar
as the Moulin de Beausset, but then; that was
then, and this is now, if you see what I mean.
The old place was always smart, cool and welcoming but somehow, the new version
is a good country kilometre better. We are spoiled for choice of restaurants in this
area, especially as the recent years have seen a huge increase in the variety of
cuisine etranger on offer along the coast. There is no doubt that this coast is where
some of the best fish are caught and served, with the hooks still in their mouths. I
swear the I have seen some of them winking at me on the market stalls . . . . Sadly,
very few of the restaurants along the coast serve good beef. The Côté de Boeuf is
special because the present chef really understands his boeuf, cooked however
you want it. Do you remember, ‘Chateau Briand for 2’ or Côté de Boeuf a deux; it is
mouth- wateringly good. Of course the menus do include a choice of fish and jolly
Good they are too. Do try the carpaccio de St. Jaques with just the slightest hint of
citron, as an entrée.The guide price for the top Menu Confiance Gastro (4 plats) is
45€ but there are lots of less expensive options below that.
The wine list manages to extend well beyond the local vineyards and includes
some very tasty reds, which is exactly what you might need to accompany the beef.
